This apple cinnamon walnut bread has a delicious cinnamon swirl on the inside. It’s a slightly sweet bread perfect for breakfast.
Baking bread is one of those things that just makes you feel like a domestic goddess. There might be an inch of dog hair covering my hardwood floors right now, bathrooms that need to be cleaned, windows that have Ginger’s nose prints all over them and a stack of papers that haven’t been filed in no less than 4 months in the office…
But dude, I BAKED BREAD. That totally trumps all that other stuff on the scale of domestic goddess-ness.
As if yeast itself wasn’t enough to get you all flustered as you sit there praying it froths up and “activates”, 6 month expired yeast will pretty much give you a heart attack. Luckily, these babies weren’t ready to die and still did their thing quite nicely.
That would be our property tax bill in the background, yet another thing that needs filing (and paying).
The accomplishment you feel when you cut into something that looks like this from the outside, to find this waiting for you on the inside…
rivals setting a PR after 13.1 miles.
Holding your breath waiting for yeast to activate versus 12 weeks of training and 190 miles?
Hmmm…tough call.
I think I’ll go with the bread this time.
*Baking it was all I could handle, recipe is from Ashley. I halved it, used walnuts instead of pecans, 1 real egg and half AP flour, half whole wheat. It turned out just barely sweet, perfect as a breakfast bread.
Looking for a quick bread recipe that won’t take you as long but offer the same comforting freshly baked vibes? Try this maple walnut bread.

We make bread about once a month! Yours looks way better than ours and apple cinnamon…yes PLEASE!
I love baking bread. Perhaps I will make some today. The apple swirl sounds delicious.
I totally, 100% agree! And somehow I can get away without cleaning the house on days I make bread so other people must agree, haha. This looks awesome, I love the apple in the swirl. I need to try something like this! Yours looks perfect, you should totally feel like a domestic goddess :D
Yummy! I love the smell of homemade bread baking…I bet the apple cinnamon would push this over the edge!
Gina, this bread looks awesome. I can relate to the agony of getting yeast to work properly…to be honest, I typically just make a peasant bread or a variation of irish soda bread to avoid the yeast altogether ;) I would love to cut a thick slice of that whole wheat apple bread, toast it, and slather apple butter on it. It looks healthy and at the same time would be such a treat to have with tea or with a big bowl of soup. I’m a huge fan of yours, keep up the great work!
Thanks Julia! :)
Dude, you did bake bread! And it looks just delicious. You got the roll just perfect, well done!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
“That totally trumps all that other stuff on the scale of domestic goddess-ness.” <— that's what I was thinking before I even read the post. That if there was nothing else you did all weekend, just that alone was amazing! Looks gorgeous.
I love bread and yours looks wonderful! Isn’t is a gratifying feeling when you make bread? I love it! Going to make some today, just haven’t decided what kind.
wow its gorgeous!! I tried baking bread once it came out so dense and didn’t rise and I think I may never try again to be honest!
This looks amazing. Bread intimidates me!
