Watermelon Lime Slushie

This watermelon lime slushie is an extremely refreshing drink with watermelon, lime, strawberries and coconut water. Summer in a cup.

If you live anywhere in the northeast, you’d have wanted this in your hand over the last 2 days. My car said 102 the entire 2 hour drive from Connecticut to New York yesterday. 1-0-flippin’-2.

I’m not one to complain about heat usually. My favorite part about summer is stepping out of an over air-conditioned store into that blast of hot air. I dream of that feeling when I’m wrapped in fleece blankets, fuzzy socks and oversized sweat pants in January. I’d rather be sweating bullets than freezing cold any day. But yesterday, it was literally hard to breathe. My sunglasses fogged up when I opened the car door. I’d equate it to that suffocating feeling you get when you step into a sauna and force yourself to stay in there for at least 5 minutes because gosh darnit, it must be good for you! Sometimes I personify my car and actually feel bad for it in extreme conditions. Yesterday, I watched the temperature gauge like a hawk fully expecting it to just shoot over to the H at any moment and give up. Any normal person would’ve in those conditions. Poor thing had to blast the A/C in traffic for half the trip and then speed along at 75 for the rest of it. That’s like 45 minutes of HIIT followed by a marathon in 102 degree weather.

I’ve decided 12 pound watermelons are a good thing. Mainly because I don’t want to go another day without this drink in my hand.

Watermelon, lime, strawberries, coconut water. Can you say summer in a glass?

It’s the most refreshing thing my lips have ever tasted and it makes 102 degree days seem like a breezy walk in the park.

Yield: 2 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes

This watermelon lime slushie is an extremely refreshing drink with watermelon, lime, strawberries and coconut water. Summer in a cup.


  • 2 cups watermelon, cubed
  • 1/2 cup strawberries
  • juice of 1/2 a lime
  • 1/2 tablespoon agave (honey or other sweetener will work also)
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup ice


  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until ice is broken up into a "slushie" consistency.
  2. Serve over more ice and garnish with mint if desired.

    Oh my god I could have drank 85 of these yesterday! I walk to work everyday, and yesterday by block 3 I was literally beet red, covered in a massive sweaty glaze, and hyperventilating – hot image, right? City heat can be brutal. I’ll be remembering this drink for the next insane sweat fest!

    Wow, that drink looks AMAZING!! I know what you mean about the grass looking greener on the other side! Being in a rainy cool climate at the moment, (and still using a hot water bottle at night!… in JUNE!) I’m jealous of the hot weather in the US. But I know I would be suffering if I was actually in it. :)

    Ahh this looks amazing!! I only wish the weather in London actually called for it! Be careful what you wish for, right?! I was dying to get out of Cyprus and now I’m here it hasn’t stopped raining the entire time! :/ Ahh I am glad to be back though!     yesterday was 90 degrees here. i teach during the summer but not in a classroom. i visit kids at their houses and have to drive everywhere. on top of it all, i got lost in some freaking stupid streets that had the following names: s everett pl., s everett ave., and s everett ct. i was late for one student and got there all sweaty and grumpy. that’s ok, the kid was grumpy too and yelled in my face the whole time.

    thanks for this refreshing drink and for reminding me that i’m not the only one suffering from driving in this crazy heat!

    Ok, I made this. Fabulous! I used San Pellegrino in place of coconut water and I also froze chicnks of watermelon in lieu of using ice. LOVE it. Will be making it many more times.

    Yummy! You know, I just discovered how awesome watermelon all blended up was last year and I can’t get enough. It hasn’t been nearly that hot here but I’m still blending up watermelon, haha. So delicious :D

    this DOES look super refreshing! i’d love a pitcher of that in my fridge so i could have it daily, seriously, this summer has started off with some heat! haha…out of curiosity, how long does it take you to drive from your house in NY to CT?? i’m guessing you’re in the upper parts of NY?

      I actually live only 25 minutes from the CT border but where our office is in CT is further east and all the way on the shoreline. There’s no direct way to get there and it takes about an 1 hr 40 mins on a good day. I live just over an hour north of NYC.

    This looks really good with the watermelon-strawberry-lime-combo! For the last few months I’ve been freezing coconut water into ice cubes and having it handy to throw in smoothies. I think it would be good here instead of the ice, since I love smoothies that are so cold they are halfway to a sorbet. Will have to try it and get back to you– as soon as we get some hot weather, that is. Unlike you and everyone else we are still rooting for the sun to appear and stay here in the Pacific NW.

    On another subject. Have just started making smoothies. Used frozen mixed berries. It was delicious. Only problem, the seeds! I tried straining the drink but that didn’t work. I thought the Nutribullet would take care of seeds. Could you give me some ideas on how to use berries without having a seed spitting contest each time. Love your recipes and your blogs.
