If you grew up watching Scooby-Doo on Saturday morning cartoons, you’re going to love this fun, bright-colored and tropical tasting Scooby Snack shot. It’s simple to make and a party favorite that makes a great conversation starter for reminiscing about some good old childhood memories.
Shot recipes are not the norm around here, but when I recently came across a table full of Scooby Snack shots at a party, all of us who spent our formative childhood years in the early 90s watching the cartoon on weekend mornings, instantly started reminiscing about how much better life was back then.
I’m a sucker for nostalgia. There’s nothing that can take you back in time to specific memories like the taste of a certain food, a smell or in this case, the name of an alcoholic shot.
I have no idea who created this (it had to be someone my age) recipe, what made them think Midori melon, coconut rum, pineapple juice and heavy cream were flavors Scooby or anyone riding around in the Mystery Machine van would’ve enjoyed, but I salute them for the effort and the wonderful memories of a simpler time when life was all-around good.
Why You Should Make This Fun Shot
- Look at the color! It’s an vibrant, electric neon green that’s fun and playful and almost Ghostbuster-like in appearance. Some say it’s to mimic Shaggy’s iconic green shirt, others say it’s the same lime-green color as part of the mystery machine camper van the characters drive around in.
- Throwing one back will all but mandate you to start telling your favorite childhood stories.
- The recipe is easy as can be for shot making.
- It’s perfect for a party and easy to scale up and down depending on the size of your crowd.
- There may be alcohol in these, but they taste like a tropical vacation!
Scooby Snack Shot Ingredients
- Melon liqueur — I used Midori
- Coconut rum — Malibu is my favorite
- Pineapple juice — Grab this from the can but make sure it’s 100% juice. You can use any extra to make a pineapple caipirinha.
- Heavy cream — Adding dairy to the mix may sound weird but it gives it a touch of richness that’s really delicious and reminiscent of a drink with coconut cream, like a piña colada.
- Whipped cream — This optional garnish is a fun touch.
- Scooby Snack graham cracker cookies — These are an optional, but really make the shot. See our recipe notes for where to find these. They look identical to a dog treat, but taste like a human cookie — so fun!
- Maraschino cherries — These make a great alternative garnish if you can’t find the Scooby Snack cookies.
My Pro Tip
Recipe Tip
If you don’t want to buy a whole container of heavy cream to make this drink, just use a bit of whipped cream in the cocktail shaker instead for the same effect.
Making The Scooby-Doo Shot
The first step of making a good shot is to freeze the shot glasses! This may seem unnecessary, but an ice cold shot tastes so much better.
Fill a cocktail shake with the melon liqueur, coconut rum, pineapple juice and heavy cream. Add ice to the top of the shaker, place the top on and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. The mixture will be well chilled and frothy.
Attach the strainer to the cocktail shaker and pour into the previously frozen shot glasses. Top each shot with a touch of whipped cream and adorn a Scooby Snack cookie (or cherry) to the top.
The shots are best served immediately after pouring.
Variations On The Scooby Snack Drink Shot
- Make it vegan — Use dairy free whipped cream to top the drink and omit the heavy cream from recipe or swap it with coconut cream from a can.
- Add banana liqueur — Some recipes call for this as part of the main ingredient list. You can certainly add it (in the same quantity as the rum and melon liqueur) or, swap out the melon liqueur for the banana flavor.
- Try a blue Scooby Snack shot recipe — Switch out the Midori melon for Blue Curacao and you’ll have a blue version of this fun drink.
- Turn the shot into a cocktail — Pour two shots into a chilled martini glass and enjoy this as cocktail to sip.
In the cartoon, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Fred often have to entice Scooby-Doo with treats (Scooby snacks) to get him to go along with their mystery-solving adventures, but one thing’s for sure, with its fun appearance and tropical taste, you won’t have to convince anyone to enjoy his namesake shot.
More Fun Drinks To Enjoy With Friends
The green tea shot is another fun green-tinted drink recipe that also has a fun backstory — there’s no actual green tea in it!
Alternatively, there’s also the white tea shot which is the green tea shot’s fruity, colorless cousin.
A strawberry salty dog is just as colorful as this Scooby snack shot recipe as perfect if you want a drink instead of a shot.

Instructions
- Place shot glasses in the freezer to chill while you prepare the ingredients.
- In a cocktail shaker, add the Midori Melon Liqueur, Malibu Coconut Rum, Pineapple Juice, and Heavy Cream.

Notes
- If you prefer a lighter version, you can substitute the heavy cream with milk or a non-dairy alternative.
- For a more tropical twist, consider adding a splash of banana liqueur, and/or adding a splash of coconut cream or coconut milk.
- This could also be served in a chill glass and served as a cocktail drink.
- Garnish with a Scooby Snack graham cracker, or a stemmed cherry. (Buyer Note: I found that not every store sells Scooby snacks. If your store sells them, they will be in the prepackaged snacks area.)
