Sweet honey dijon red cabbage slaw

red cabbage slaw

This is a story of how a day goes from relaxing, productive and relatively good to utter crap in the span of just over an hour.

You write a post waxing poetically about loving your new workout, how you’ve never looked forward to sweating so much in your entire life, blah blah blah and then you walk in the door for the 6pm class and see this written on the board:

Hang clean 1-1-1-1-1-1-1

You leave 57 minutes later wanting to kick barbells and punch things because you can’t get under more than 73 mother effing pounds on the damn move.

The “you” by the way, is me in case you haven’t guessed.

Then you come home and your dad calls your husband to say the bank called his house looking for him. Odd.

So you call the bank back only to find out that a payment that you totally know you scheduled apparently didn’t get paid like it was supposed to and things were past due. Awesome. Nothing like talking to the debt collection department at 7pm at night.

10 million transfers from one department to the next you’re expediting payments over the phone, pleading to have late fees removed since you’ve never missed a payment before in your life and running up and down the stairs asking your husband for his social security number, drivers license number, DNA samples because you’re technically not an authorized “user” on the account. And riiiight before you just about lose your shit with the rep on the phone wanting to scream “I’m his FRIGGIN WIFE and I’m trying to PAY you”, your phone drops the call because you have AT&T and that’s just how they roll.

That’s when you actually do lose your shit, practically throw the phone at your husband telling him to deal with it while you go cool off in the shower.

20 minutes later you come downstairs, sit down at the computer and log into your account to see if the payment posted and you realize your account is displaying in pounds, as in the symbol for money in the UK and not dollars. Obviously, this can only mean one thing in your mentally distraught state, your account has been hacked in some way shape or form so you spend the next 30 minutes trying to get the (appropriate) rep on the phone to tell you what the hell is going on. After finally getting the only competent Bank of America employee all night, she assures you she sees dollar symbols and not pounds on your account and it must just be some weird glitch. You hang up still weary and then it hits you…you set your computer’s keyboard language to English (UK) when you got annoyed by some stupid red squiggly spell check line that kept appearing when writing blog posts. You log on to the bank account using your work computer and sure enough….dollar signs.

Palm —–> Face.

Redeeming factor of the day?

Your husband had dinner ready within 5 minutes of walking in the door after that frustrating workout and you got to devour these leftovers before the bank madness ensued. A small little glimmer of positivity in an otherwise shitfest of a night, but I’ll take it.

Sorry your day was less than stellar! At least this slaw looks like a tasty distraction.

I understand about late payments. My bank kept calling me, but I never answered the phone because I thought they were trying to sell me insurance like they always do. Then on a Sunday my Husband answered and they said I missed my car payment. I know I paid it! So I talked to the guy on the phone and they said that it looks like I tired to pay it, but I got my account and routing number mixed up, I reversed them. He said sorry, your late and charged me a late fee. I said you saw I tried to pay, he didn’t give a crap! Totally sucks!! Ugh!

Anyway your Sweet honey dijon cabbage slaw looks delicious!!!

OH man—sounds like quite the day! Hope you don’t have another like it for a long, long, time!

  4. 4

    You need a drink.

  5. 6

I hate strength workouts like that…blah. I hate dealing with the bank even more. Glad you had this cabbage to turn things around!

  6. 7

Aww I am sorry you had such a rough day. Those kind of days make me wish we could do a hard restart and have a total do-over. Or maybe just being able to crawl into bed, cover yourself in blankets and wake up the next day would work, just as well! Hope today is a better one for you.
And by the way, WOW the colors in this slaw are just so beautiful.

  7. 8

Oh man, what a day! I hope today is better!

  8. 9

apples, cabbage, dijon, honey, lots of crunch – this has it all going on for me!

  9. 10

Oh. MY! That sounds AWFUL. And I just had to giggle (albeit a sad empathetic giggle) when you said your AT&T call dropped. Story.of.my.life. UGH!!! I hope your day today is a million times better, love.

This reminds me, I haven’t had cabbage slaw in ages! but it’s just so good! This looks amazing, I can only imagine how good it tastes. Red cabbage slaws remind me of winter for some reason. Or maybe spring? Not sure. Yeah, I might be bluffing. haha either way – yum!

  11. 13

hahahaha I didn’t know you could change your language to UK English… sounds like fun, until something like this happens. Glad you weren’t hacked, that is really annoying. Slaw looks delish!

  12. 14

Love the combo of apples and cabbage!

  13. 15

ugh, i HATE days like that! i had a similar mishap with our health insurance last week…turns out the email they sent saying that our payments would be on automatic withdrawal meant that i actually had to be the one to set that up. awesome.

but yay for the hubby getting dinner done!

  14. 16

oh god, I hope you got it all straightened out. I’ve had multiple fraud charges and its the most frustrating situation ever.

  15. 17

Ugh, I hate days like that! And about the dropped call – that’s totally how AT&T rolls. How is it possible that their service sucks so bad? I sometimes have to stand out on my porch to make calls. At least you didn’t have to deal with Comcast though. My voicemail hasn’t been working for weeks, but I’d rather it not work than have to spend an hour and a half verifying my account info with them only to have them accidentally remove whatever “promo” plan I was on and tack on another $50/mo to my bill (true story).

I am so perplexed at how bad they can be at something that is their CORE PURPOSE, holding a freakin phone call. They’re horrific. If my job didn’t pay my bill and I had a choice, I’d switch to Verizon faster than you could say the word. Don’t even get me started on cable companies! I’d be doing the same thing you are and dealing with the broken voicemail.

I have had a couple nights like this. Poor Art. You should have called. I would have brought over some of my homemade hooch. I have limoncello, cassis, cherry vodka and blackberry vodka. We could have drank your bad day away :)

  17. 21

Oh no! So sorry. But, at least you blogged about it!

    Slaws are so my thang.

  18. 22

Sounds like you were having a stress city day :/ Hope your day is MUCH better today!

  19. 23

Stressful days SUCK. Sorry!! :( Those phone calls – yup totally something that happens to me AND then the dropped call yup. And then the computer issue… yup totally something I’d do too. Freaking out, having a fit, then something stupid dawns on me and I don’t want to admit it was my own doing ha!

  20. 24

i’m sorry to hear about your terrible day… we all have those… all you need to do is take deep breaths, a damn good drink, and lots of sleep.

  21. 25

Ohhhh no! What a craptastic day :( But you made me laugh out loud at my desk here at work and I thank you for that! :D
