Avocado citrus smoothie

Remember my protest? This is what it was all about.

Snow coming down at the rate of 1-2 inches per hour seemed as good a time as any to make a pretty tropical tasting drink don’t you think?

Doesn’t seeing those ingredients immediately make you think of summer, flip flops, pools and heat? I tried to visualize that with each sip instead of the horror scene unfolding outside my window.

I’m not gonna lie, avocados always remind me of Mexican food too but that wasn’t really the image I was going for here.

For those skeptics on adding avocado to a smoothie, you can’t taste it. It just gives it a really creamy, smooth texture while slipping in some healthy fats, fiber and of course a fun color.

Our power is back, the snow is melting, life has returned to normal, but I’d still make this again in a heartbeat.

Avocado Citrus Smoothie

Yield: 1 serving

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt (I used Greek 0%)
  • juice of half a lemon
  • juice of half an orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon agave
  • 1/2 almond milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • pinch of salt

Directions:

Combine everything in a blender and blend until smooth.

Have you/would you try avocado in a smoothie?

What’s your favorite smoothie combination?

Delicious! My aunt is from Brazil (for the most part, avocado is treated as sweet rather than savory there) and she introduced me to avocado milkshakes: avocado, milk, sugar, ice. Sublime.

Your smoothie looks and sounds great! I’m a big fan of putting a little (maybe 1/4) frozen or fresh avocado in my smoothies. It gives them the perfect creamy texture and I can’t even taste the avocado flavor.

Boston also got a little snow, but thankfully most of it has melted. So bizarre for October!

The smoothie looks delicious. I still have yet to make a smoothie with avocado. I think because I always dash salt on it after I cut it and it doesn’t make it in the blender. ;)

Can I borrow a sliver of your weather, too? This high 80′s is just so last summer!

This looks so creamy and delicious! I don’t think I could drink a smoothie if it were snowing, though- hell, it’s 75 here and it almost seems too chilly for a smoothie!

Ooh delicious. I don’t remember if I’ve tried avocado in a smoothie. I think I’d like to try it with piña colada flavours.

I have never thought to add avocado to a smoothie! You are brave to drink a cold drink in the snow:) I would be reaching for the hot chocolate.

I was in search of a smoothie recipe with avo to try with my new blender this morning. I decided on this one, and I’m enjoying my AWESOME smoothie now! I substituted some frozen mango chunks for the almond milk because I didn’t have any. SO GOOD! Thanks Gina!
