I’ll be honest. I’ve always heard Aldi was cheaper, but I kept putting it off. New store, different brands, weird cart system… it just felt like a whole thing.

But grocery prices lately? Yeah, I finally gave in.

So I committed. One full week. No Walmart. No Target. Just Aldi.

And I tracked everything. What I loved, what I regretted, and what I’d absolutely grab again without thinking twice.

Let’s just say… I was not expecting some of these.

🛒 First Impressions (Real Talk)

Walking in felt a little different. Smaller store. Fewer choices. No name brands everywhere.

At first I thought, “Is this going to be limiting?”

But honestly? It made shopping way faster. I wasn’t standing there comparing 12 versions of the same thing.

Also… my total? Noticeably lower. Like, immediately. But, here is what I’d buy again.

🥚 Eggs & Dairy

Milk, eggs, butter, cheese… all cheaper. And I couldn’t taste a difference at all.

I actually compared eggs side by side with what I usually buy. Same quality. Lower price. Done deal.

🧀 Cheese (Especially Block & Shredded)

This one surprised me.

Their cheese melts well, tastes good, and costs less. I used it in casseroles and pasta and it held up perfectly.

🥩 Ground Beef & Chicken

Not every cut, but basics like ground beef and chicken breasts? Solid.

I made a few dinners with them and honestly… no complaints.

🍞 Bread & Tortillas

Cheap and totally fine for everyday meals.

If you’re making sandwiches, wraps, quick dinners… this is an easy save.

🥫 Pantry Staples

Canned goods, pasta, rice, sauces…

This is where Aldi really shines. You can stock up without that “how is this $100 already?” feeling.

🍪 Snacks (Some of Them…)

Okay, not all. But a few were surprisingly good.

Their knockoff cookies and crackers? Dangerous. In a good way.

❌ What I Wouldn’t Buy Again

🥬 Certain Produce

This one was hit or miss.

Some things were great. Others went bad fast. Like… why is this already sad two days later?

If I go back, I’ll be picky about what produce I grab.

🍕 Frozen Meals (Some, Not All)

A few were fine. A few were… not it.

Kind of bland. Kind of meh. Not terrible, just not something I’d go out of my way to buy again.

🍟 Chips (Texture Thing)

This might just be me, but some of the chips had a slightly off texture.

Flavor was okay. Crunch just wasn’t the same.

Not awful, just didn’t taste as good as what I’m used to.

This one felt like a “you get what you pay for” situation.

💸 What I Actually Saved

This is the part that got me.

I didn’t do anything extreme. Just my normal weekly groceries.

And I still spent noticeably less than I usually do.

Not like a couple dollars. Enough to make me stop and go, “Okay… this might be a regular thing.”

🤔 So… Is Aldi Worth It?

Yeah. Honestly, yeah.

Is it perfect? No. You’ll still want to grab a few things somewhere else.

But for basics? Pantry staples? Easy dinners?

It’s kind of a no-brainer if you’re trying to cut your grocery bill without sacrificing too much.

🛍️ What I’d Do Next Time

If I did another week (and I probably will), here’s my plan:

  • Stock up on pantry staples and meat
  • Grab dairy without hesitation
  • Be more selective with produce
  • Skip the “maybe this will be good” frozen meals

Simple tweaks. Bigger savings.

If you’ve been on the fence about trying Aldi… this is your sign.

Worst case? You try it once.

Best case? You walk out wondering why you didn’t switch sooner.
