Paleo challenge: day 18

From Jan 1 – 31 I’m doing a strict paleo (slightly modified Whole30) challenge with my CrossFit box. I decided to journal the month in food on here (in addition to normal posting) after getting a huge positive response on my Facebook page. I’m also going to detail the amount of sleep I got, the workout for the day and any other relevant notes. I’ll only detail drinks when it’s something other than water or tea, but note that I typically drink 80-100 ounces of water a day. I’ll link to recipes (either mine or other people’s) when applicable, but I don’t usually cook from recipes for myself so if you leave a comment asking for the recipe for something, there is none unless otherwise noted.

Notes for the day:

Dessert cravings have been intense the last 2-3 days. Somehow, I’ve held off by making hot tea any time I want to shove chocolate down my throat. It’s weird to me this is happening now and not 2 weeks ago. Bread, pasta, rice….none of that is tempting in the least (well except after reading this post yesterday, thanks Megan) but dessert is my weakness. All I want is a little square of 86% cacao that’s sitting in my pantry. I’m not even talking like a full blown dessert with butter & sugar up the wazoo, just a freakin’ piece of dark chocolate would make me happy.

cocoa powder yes, other “Real” forms of chocolate, no. But cocoa powder is just not doing it for me! ;)

Dark chocolate IS allowed on paleo and primal lifestyles. Not to mention that The Perfect Health Diet (a paleo well known type blog that makes some differences) advocates eating chocolate.
Seriously for mental health and sanity, why not? I eat like 30 – 40 grams of chocolate EVERY night. Seriously. When a person doesn’t fixate on food and what to eat and what is “allowed” food and body weight are natural. Live, eat , love, laugh.

Hi Tanya- I’m aware dark chocolate is allowed however, I’m doing a 30 day challenge with my crossfit box (see the note up top on the post) where chocolate is not. I’m also doing a modified Whole30 (keeping myself to a few stricter standards than my box is) wherein chocolate is allowed not allowed for the 30 days. Believe me, I eat dark chocolate frequently when eating paleo and just not on this “challenge”! It’s just a temporary restriction. I agree with you 100% about the fixating piece you mentioned at the end. If it weren’t for the big pot of $ involved in this challenge for the winners, I probably wouldn’t even be participating ;)

I too am trying to curb a few cravings for dessert. I find it hard to do. I have become accustomed to eating dessert(square of chocolate or sometimes it could be a dish of ice cream) I want to enjoy dessert with a healthier attitude towards it rather than expecting to have it well because I think I need to. Anyway that is what I am doing. I am happy about it. :)

    Have a beautiful weekend!
