This simple guava pineapple smoothie is made with light coconut milk and a few frozen strawberries for a refreshing dairy-free summer drink.

I know the pitaya (dragonfruit) craze is almost old news at this point but living in a place sans a Whole Foods or any exotic market where finding dragonfruit is basically mission impossible, I’m still pretty obsessed with it.

I mean, I barely just got over acai bowls and that’s been past its prime for a solid year or so already.

Suburban life is rough sometimes.

Without dragonfruit at my disposal, guava is pretty much the next best thing.

It’s about as exotic as the local grocery stores will get this time of year so I gotta take what I can get and grab these fragrant little guys while I can.

If you do have dragonfruit on hand though, this pitaya bowl is dreamy! You can learn how to cut dragonfruit with this post and see all the fun ways to add it to smoothie bowls.

Ripe summer guava fruit goes so well with pineapple for a refreshing summer smoothie.

There are a few different kinds of guava and while I wish the ones my store carries were those gorgeous pink color I see everyone else finding (seemingly so easily too I might add), they’re not.

They’re a pale flesh color at best and far from that vivid brightness your brain is programmed to associate with tropical fruit.

Last year, I combined them with strawberries in this guava chia pudding and the color was exactly what I had in my mind when I think of guava.

So for this guava pineapple smoothie, I decided to do the same.

Pale flesh just wasn’t gonna cut it.

This simple smoothie of guava, pineapple and light coconut milk is a delicious and healthy way to cool off in the summer.

This isn’t a strawberry smoothie though. There’s just a handful and they’re purely for color.

The flavors that come through in this smoothie are most definitely guava and pineapple.

Combined with the light coconut milk, it basically epitomizes a refreshing tropical summer drink, just like this mango pineapple smoothie.

The simple combination of guava and pineapple makes for a delicious summer smoothie.

I was all about simplicity in this guava pineapple smoothie.

Fruit + coconut milk and that’s pretty much it.

Plus, you can make my gut healing smoothie recipe if that’s what you’re looking for instead. It uses papaya, another wonderful tropical fruit!
