Surprise! I hopped on the blood orange train.

Partly because they were on killer sale, partly because I couldn’t actually remember what they tasted like it had been so long since I had one and partly because I’m lame and figured everyone else was doing it, why not me? I’m not above admitting it.

So, here we are face to face with another fruit that leaves a murder scene in your kitchen like those pomegranate chocolate chip pancakes.

Granted, this one doesn’t take 20 minutes of picking apart so it’s definitely got the advantage.

Citrus this time of year is one of the few things that makes winter bearable.

Although, I’d rather live a life without citrus for the exchange of warm, sunny days all year round (oh wait, that exists, it’s called Florida) if I had the choice.

I don’t have a choice right now though so instead, I’ll sip my fresh, tart and just slightly sweet blood orange smoothie and keep bugging Ulysses to pick some days that we’re going back to the sunshine state in February.

Seriously Ulys, pick the damn days.

  1. I love blood oranges and they’re cheap as heck now that I’ve moved to Florida. Love the idea of putting them into a smoothie. Yesterday I was eating them on the beach. I still find it weird that it’s 80 degrees in January here in Miami. The weather definitely helps me miss Wisconsin less :)

  2. This looks amazing. I honestly can say I never had a blood orange, I guess I should hop on that train too. Next time I’m at the store I’ll pick a few up!

  3. I don’t think I’ve actually ever had a blood orange. I’m unsurprisingly unadventurous when it comes to buying food. If someone else prepares it, I’ll buy anything, but if I’m in charge, I’m sticking with the basics.
