Classic fudgy salted brownies

by Running to the Kitchen on October 27, 2011

You didn’t think I was going to make brownies and not tell you about them did you?

I’m not that mean. Although Ginger may beg to differ. Winking smile

Everyone should have a go to brownie recipe. It’s like that favorite pair of jeans that you wear 95% of the time even though you have plenty of others. Or, that burned CD from 1998 that you still keep in your car because there’s nothing like a little Ghetto Superstar blaring through your speakers to put you in a good mood.

Brownies are nostalgic, comforting, never let you down type food.

And let’s be honest, sometimes a girl just needs some chocolate in her life.

Maybe it’s because you ran 10 miles.

Maybe it’s because you’ve been up since 5:30am with a puking dog.

Or, maybe it’s just because chocolate sounds like a better option than spinach today.

Whatever. The brownies aren’t judging.

Fudgy, salted, classic brownies. There are many versions out there. This is mine and it’s good. Smile

Fudgy Salted Brownies

Yield: 12 squares

  • 3.5 oz. dark chocolate (I used 72% cacao)
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • scant 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup AP flour
  • sea salt for topping

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8×8 baking pan with foil and grease. Melt butter and chocolate together in microwave and stir to combine, set aside. In a large bowl whisk together eggs and sugar for about a minute until thick and fully combined. Add salt, vanilla and cocoa powder and whisk again. Slowly add flour and combine. Add in chocolate and butter mixture and combine. Pour batter into pan and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake for 18-20 minutes.

What’s your go to dessert?

My go to recipe is chocolate chip cookies, though, they’re starting to get pushed out in favor of cowboy cookies. SOOO good!

YUM!
Song from 1998? Hmm.. I would have been in Middle School then… and in middle school I know I was loving Invisible Man by 98 Degrees!

Isn’t it funny how 4 years age difference back then was so dramatic. I was driving and you were in middle school and now it’s nothing!

These look amazing! And with minimal ingredients, so they must be simple and dense. :)

These brownies look SOOO good! I am going to have to try them someday! My “Go to dessert” would be Oatmeal Pie. It sounds weird, I know… but it is my really super sweet guilty pleasure and so easy to make. I think around 1998, I was busy “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It”!

Have a good day!

My grandmother’s fudge recipe is my go-to. As for the songs..I love listening to the 90′s station on satelite radio, the good ol’ days. The other day Mambo Number 5 came on, and it’s weird how you never forget lyrics to old song, cause I was able to sing along and jam to it all by myself driving to work! Love those moments, even though I must look ridiculous to all the other drivers!

Hmm I’m thinking Drinking in LA – Bran Van 3000… actually I still love that! Def one of the better ones! Actually thinking about it, 90′s house music definitely rocks my socks! Those brownies look immense! I’m dying to bake and the teeny tiny next to useless bit of willpower I have is wavering!

I love love love brownies. On my birthday I’d rather have brownies than cake anytime. They’re awesome and these look so good.
I also have a go-to brownie recipe that I got from the Food Network and it’s incredible. I haven’t made it in forever, but fall is definitely the best time to bring it back.

I don’t have a go-to brownie recipe, but I have a couple go-to dessert recipes that have worked out for me in the past: apple pie, key lime pie, and a muffin throw-back or two.

As for fav 1998 song, “Everlong” by Foo Fighters. Actually, it’s still a fav!

Wow, those brownies look excellent… especially with the super dark chocolate. I always experiment with brownie recipes and then immediately forget which ones I liked! In 1998 I was definitely in my boy band phase:)

So I came across you on instagram thinking you were a different blog that is very similar to your title so I thought I should pop over and say hi! I might have to use this recipe soon, I haven’t baked in so long and I miss it. It makes me think of the best ice cream ever: Blue Bunny chocolate salted caramel.

My favorite brownie of ALL time is from a local restaurant that salts them as well. It is to die for! If these are anything like theirs, I will be eternally GRATEFUL! Er…maybe not…this could be bad…very, very bad!
