1 year

Today marks 1 year since I started this blog with a post about planting flowers on Mother’s Day (yeah, it took me about 4 months to find my “voice” as they say). I’m not going to get all sappy (not my style and I already did that after the first month, go ahead and laugh at that one) but  I do think it’s ironic/interesting/or pretty damn cool that a year from the date I started this thing and entered into the world I’d been stalking behind the scenes for 2+ years, I’m at a blogger retreat, rooming with people I’ve never met and hopefully making some new friends. My husband and family think I’m nuts, my coworkers laugh at me and I couldn’t really care less. It’s 2 days in the Colorado sunshine, hiking, taking bootcamp classes, pretending I know what I’m doing in yoga and having actual conversations with someone besides Ginger during the day. Even if everyone turns out to be an alien (which might make for some weird sleeping arrangements since I’m sharing a bed with one), it should still be a fun time.

I didn’t bake a celebratory cake or anything to mark the occasion, but here’s a little collection of my favorite 25 recipes that have out of my kitchen in the past 365 days. There were 200+, choosing 25 took me almost half a day and I could probably still change my mind 50 more times.

I tried to limit the amount of balls that made the cut and let me just say that was one heck of a task. They’ve easily become my favorite thing this past year and I could do a whole post dedicated to just them. Everything is better in ball form.

If you want to laugh at some pretty horrible photos, may I suggest the coconut roasted carrot salad & Summer gazpacho (although the gazpacho is still one of my favorite posts). Everyone’s gotta start somewhere I guess.

Oh, I didn’t realize you were supposed to be here. Too bad! It’s been a blast so far. Hope you can make it next year!

Congratulations on your first year! As far as your first post, there are definitely strains of your voice in there, now you’re able to cultivate it! And YES I cannot believe how much the mark up on flowers are considering they all start from a seed. I am experimenting with seeds this year to see if I can make that dollar stretch.

oooh, good luck with that. I always get super frustrated with how long it takes seeds to germinate and end up splurging for the actual plant. The growing season in NY is short enough, I don’t need to waste precious weeks on seeds! haha

I know, didn’t you start around the same time too? I feel like there were a bunch of us in the same month or so. It’s kinda funny how we all somehow found each other in the beginning :)

Congrats, and hope you’re having a complete blast with those aliens at belndretreat. I can’t wait to meet bloggers someday it always looks like tons of fun and not awkward (somehow). And I thought we started the same day but my 1 year is in 3 days… still so close.

I thought it was the 7th when I wrote that post the other day and then I went back and actually checked and realized it was the 5th. So you’re not going crazy or anything, I was just lying in that other post apparently ;) Happy 1 year to you (a little early)!

Congrats!! Blogging is such a fun outlet to share our passions with others isn’t it? My life honestly feels more complete because of it. So glad you found your voice and your home here! Jealous of your Blend retreat visit! Wish I was there!

Happy blog anniversary! A blogger retreat in Colorado, with yoga and fun stuff all day, how exciting! I need to make those poop balls because out of all those goodies, that’s the one that’s calling my name. Have fun at your retreat Gina. :)

    • Running to the Kitchen says

haha, yes, make the poop balls. You won’t be disappointed, except maybe in their appearance ;)

Congrats on 1 year! And as I said the other day, I honestly thought you had been blogging about 2-3 years when I started reading your blog which I am thinking was darn near the very beginning now that I now it’s one year right now. I cannot believe that you basically hit the ground running with awesome food photography and it continues to grow and just blow me away. Congrats Gina!

    Have fun at the Retreat!

It was very near the beginning. For some reason I remember us emailing very early on from when I started b/c you recommended Jenn to me and had just finished up your blogging 101 series which was super helpful and timely for me :)

Congrats Gina! Hope you have a great time at the retreat. I hope to get to a blogger retreat soon. They sound like so much fun. I really love reading your blog. You have done an amazing job. Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing what year #2 has in store for you.

Thanks Jamie! The retreat has been awesome. This is my first “conference” too and what a great first one to attend since it’s really focused on meeting and getting to know new people rather than the “business” side of blogging. I hope you can attend it next year, very fun to put “real” people to the names and writing you read everyday.

Your photography has changed so much…. it’s crazy that it’s only been a year! Let me tell you how excited I am that you started this blog because I really feel like it brought us closer together – it sparked an interest I didn’t even know we shared. I can’t wait to see what year 2 brings.
